Renaissance Kids is a unique place where students of all ages can experience a wealth of learning, creativity, and fun. We strive to accomodate and nurture each child's growth while providing flexibility to families -- new students can join anytime for most classes.
Whether your child loves to draw and create, is itching to play the piano, guitar, violin, or drums, loves to sing or act, or is driven to express themselves through movie-making, we can guide them to develop their skills and express their individuality.
Renaissance Kids' facilities occupy two studio spaces in the Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center, 9 & 12 Vassar Street, Poughkeepsie. We are conveniently located near Route 9 and the Mid-Hudson Bridge. Our caring and knowledgeable staff is dedicated to the success of each individual student.
We offer parents and students a dynamic learning environment, innovative programs in the arts, music, music recording and performance, claymation animation movie-making, vocal training, piano, guitar, drums, violin, and acting. Musical Theater Workshops are open to children as young as age 4. We also have private music lessons in violin, viola, cello, drums, guitar, piano, and voice, and unique summer and year-round programs that develop musical, artistic, and learning skills. Our students benefit from individual attention, a variety of performance and art exhibition opportunities, and a positive learning environment that is lots of fun!
Special workshops are also available for birthday parties and groups. Workshops can be tailored to meet the needs of your group of girl scouts, boy scouts, homeschoolers, etc.
This still photo was part of a Claymation Animated Movie created in summer's Claymation Movie-Making camp. In both the weekly Claymation class and the summer Claymation Camp, students write their own stories, do their own photography, voicing and narration, and add special effects and sound effects to complete their movie. All students receive a DVD of their finished movies.
Art students work with a variety of materials and techniques, building skills in drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, and sculpture. Art students also participate in creating the set, costumes, and program design for our performances. Students are taught through demonstration as well as individual guidance. They learn about famous artists throughout history and have the opportunity to view and discuss works by local artists.
Music students have a choice of group or private instruction, and some attend both. There are frequent opportunities for children to perform and share their talents with others. Students can choose to perform in our theater performances, in community service performances, in National Piano Playing Auditions, and NYSMA. We have a minimum of two stage performance per year.

Acting students can choose from Musical Theater Workshop or Acting Class -- or both, For younger student (4-8), we offer "Combo Classes" in Piano, Acting, & Singing as well as in Guitar, Acting, and Singing and Violin, Acting, and Singing. In addition, Piano and Music Readiness for ages 3-4 and Drumming Class for ages 6-9 provide parents and children with a multitude of experiences and choices. |

The watercolor above was painted by a twelve-year-old student in connection with a lesson on perspective. Students in the artist's workshop benefit from individual instruction, demonstrations by professional artists, and lessons in art history.
Below are three of the stars from our summer camp performance of "Three Piggy Opera." Year-round, Musical Theater and acting classes are available for ages 4 through 18. We provide children with a variety of venues in which to perform, including full productions in an elegant theater.
